كاثوليكية وبروتستانتية : منذ الحقبة قبل التاريخية، احتفلت الحضارات الأوروبية بامتداد الأيام وذلك بتبادل الهداياوإحياء الحفلات. ففي عهد الرومان، كانت تمتد حفلة ساتورناليا Saturnalia لعدة أيام بما فيها من حفلات وألعاب حظ. كما كان الحال بالنسبة للقبائل الجرمانية التي كانت تحيي الاحتفالات والرقصات. ولا زال البلغاريون والبولونيون يخلدون هذه التقاليد. ويبدو أن جيزس دي نزاريت Jézus de Nazareth قد ولد في الربيع، غير أن البابا جول الأول Jules 1er (القرن الرابع) قدم عيد الميلاد هذا إلى الخامس والعشرين من دسمبر بهدف منافسة الاحتفالات الوثنية الشتوية.

عطلة علمانية : تمت إعادة تسمية يوم للملاكمة في عام 1994 تقسيم من الماضي الاستعماري، وتشمل جميع مواطني جنوب أفريقيا.

عطلة علمانية : المسيرة الخضراء هي مسيرة لاسترجاع الصحراء المغربية (بالإسبانية: Marcha verde) اسم أطلق على تظاهرة جماهيرية ذات هدف استراتيجي نظمتها الحكومة المغربية في شهر نوفمبر لعام 1975 لحمل إسبانيا على تسليمها إقليم الصحراء المتنازع عليه، وهو إقليم شبه حضري مستقل كان واقعًا تحت الاحتلال الإسباني. ورقة نقدية فئة 100 درهم مغربي تعود إلى عام 1991 وتحيي ذكرى المسيرة الخضراء. تعد المسيرة الخضراء إشارة بدء المسيرة من الملك حسن الثاني لعبور الصحراء المغربية. وقد لوَّحَ المتظاهرون بالأعلام المغربية ولافتات تدعوا إلى عودة الصحراء المغربية وصور لملك المغرب وبالقرآن الكريم. كما اتُخذ اللون الأخضر لوصف هذه المسيرة كرمز للإسلام. عطلة علمانية : On this day in 1960 the police killed 69 people at Sharpeville who were participating in a protest against the pass laws. Many were shot in the back. The carnage made world headlines. Four days later the government banned black political organizations, many leaders were arrested or went into exile. During the Apartheid era there were human rights abuses by all sides; Human Rights Day is but one step to ensure that the people of South Africa are aware of their human rights and to ensure that such abuses never again occur. كاثوليكية وبروتستانتية : أراد المجلس الأول لنيكا (تجمع للأساقفة في الأيام الأولى للمسيحية) أن يجد يوماً لإحياء ذكرى صلب المسيح وقيامته. كان لا بد من ربط هذا الاحتفال بتقاليد العيد اليهودي، حيث كان يُعتقد أن العشاء الأخير للمسيح هو وجبة عيد الفصح اليهودية. ولكن التقويم اليهودي يستند إلى الدورات القمرية والشمسية، لذلك كان الاحتفال بعيد الفصح لاتباع نفس التقويم.
