كاثوليكية وبروتستانتية : منذ الحقبة قبل التاريخية، احتفلت الحضارات الأوروبية بامتداد الأيام وذلك بتبادل الهداياوإحياء الحفلات. ففي عهد الرومان، كانت تمتد حفلة ساتورناليا Saturnalia لعدة أيام بما فيها من حفلات وألعاب حظ. كما كان الحال بالنسبة للقبائل الجرمانية التي كانت تحيي الاحتفالات والرقصات. ولا زال البلغاريون والبولونيون يخلدون هذه التقاليد. ويبدو أن جيزس دي نزاريت Jézus de Nazareth قد ولد في الربيع، غير أن البابا جول الأول Jules 1er (القرن الرابع) قدم عيد الميلاد هذا إلى الخامس والعشرين من دسمبر بهدف منافسة الاحتفالات الوثنية الشتوية.

عطلة علمانية : It was the Lahore Session of the Indian National Congress at midnight of December 31, 1929 - January 1, 1930, that the Tri-Colour Flag was unfurled by the nationalists and a pledge taken that every year on January 26, the Independence Day would be celebrated and that the people would unceasingly strive for the establishment of a Sovereign Democratic Republic of India. The professed pledge was successfully redeemed on January 26, 1950, when the Constitution of India framed by the Constituent Assembly of India came into force, although the Independence from the British rule was achieved on August 15, 1947. الهندوسية -- البوذية : Guru or Bhagat Ravidas (also Raidas) was a north Indian Sant mystic of the bhakti movement who was active in the 15th century CE. Venerated in northern India and in the Indian state of Maharashtra, he is the Satguru of the Ravidasi sect and one of the fifteen Bhagats of the Sikhs. His devotional songs and verses made a lasting impact upon the bhakti movement.
